What is sushi and how did it come into being?
Is wasabi a variety of horseradish? How is it grown?
In this unique course, Ms. Kristina Kopáčková will provide you with answers to these questions and many other interesting facts about Japan.

Characteristic of the course

  • Our culinary atelier cooperates with the renowned Czech Japanese scholar and philosopher PhDr. Kristina Kopáčková, a connoisseur and lover of Japanese cuisine and the author of several Japanese cookbooks and Japanese gastronomy guidebooks. Ms. Kopáčková is also the owner of the Hana Tour Japan Travel Agency.
  • Ms. Kopáčková’s courses are enriched by her personal experiences from long-term stays in Japan. This course is a great introduction to preparing genuine Japanese dishes, while it also provides many interesting insights into Japanese culture, philosophy and gastronomy.
  • You will learn how rice is traditionally prepared in Japan (placed into a wooden bowl, cooled with a fan, flavored with rice vinegar) as well as other culinary techniques used in Japan.

We will prepare:

  • Tataki (marinated tuna fish)
  • Folded egg omelet
  • Sushi – maki, nigiri, temaki
  • Miso shiro  (a soup with tofu, algae and miso paste)

What will you learn?

  • Preparing and flavoring sushi rice
  • Frying a folded Japanese omelet
  • Rolling maki (including the upside down variety)
  • Arranging nigiri with different fish cuts
  • Making sushi with friends and enjoying yourselves
  • Using Asian flavorings
  • Other tips and tricks for professional food preparation

Course information

How long: The course begins at 4 p.m.; it is expected to end between 9 and 10 p.m.

Where: In our stylish atelier fitted with modern French De-Dietrich appliances and copper cookware.

The maximum number of participants is 16. Work is done in pairs.

  • Welcome drink at the Ola Kala culinary atelier;
  • Beginning of the lesson, introduction to the recipes and work procedures;
  • Consumption of individual finished dishes while the next ones are still cooking;
